The Overnight Question Nobody Asks at Deposit · FxPro Uganda
A swap (or rollover) is the interest debited or credited when you hold a leveraged position overnight.
Open FxPro Account →One question rarely makes it onto a pre-deposit list, because nothing on the first day reveals it: what a position costs while it simply stays open. At FxPro that is the swap — the interest debited or credited when a leveraged position is still open past the daily rollover. The rate depends on the instrument and on whether you are long or short, and Wednesday nights are charged triple to cover the weekend. So the version of the question worth asking in advance is not what the swap is at FxPro, which has no single answer, but whether your plan holds positions overnight at all, and, if it does, what the long and short rate is on the instruments you have in mind. Eligible clients can also ask about a swap-free (Islamic) account, which holds no swap. The exact figures sit per instrument inside your platform.
Swap at a glance
- Charged only on positions held past the daily rollover (around server 00:00)
- Rate depends on the instrument and whether you are long or short
- Triple swap on Wednesday nights (covers the weekend value date)
- Swap-free (Islamic) accounts hold no swap for eligible clients
- See the exact long and short swap per instrument inside your platform
Avoiding swaps
If you hold positions overnight regularly, a swap-free (Islamic) account may avoid swap interest for eligible clients. Check live swap rates inside your platform before holding overnight.
Open FxPro Account →The question people leave off the list
A deposit decision is normally made against the cost of getting in, because that is the cost with a visible price tag before anything happens. The cost of staying in has no tag at that moment: it appears later, on a day with no trading on it, which is exactly why it is worth raising while the plan can still be changed for free.
It is also the fastest item on the list to close. If the plan never keeps a position past the daily rollover, the whole group has a one-word answer and you can move on. If it does — even occasionally, even by accident on a Friday — the three questions below are the ones to settle.
How to phrase it so it has an answer
Asked in general, this question has no answer, which is why it so often gets a vague one. An answerable version names three things: the instrument, the side you intend to hold, and the night. Both directions are published for every instrument and they are not mirror images, so a figure taken for the wrong side is not an approximation — it is the wrong number.
One part of the answer is a calendar rule rather than a rate, and it applies whatever the instrument: the Wednesday rollover carries three nights at once. For a plan that holds across a week that single detail changes the arithmetic more than most rate differences do.
Which answers stay put and which do not
Two of them are structural and will read the same next month: the triple charge on Wednesday nights, and the existence of a swap-free option for eligible clients on our Islamic account page. Those can be learned once, before you fund, and then relied on.
The rate itself is not structural, so the honest pre-deposit position is to know the mechanism now and read the number at the moment it applies. That split is worth carrying to the rest of the list too: settle the rules in advance, look up the moving figures when they matter, and keep the entry cost on our spreads page as a separate line from this one.
Who answers each of these
Three of them are answered by a document. The rate for each instrument and each direction sits in the specification, and the night that carries three value dates is fixed by the calendar rather than by anyone's pricing decision. Nobody needs to be asked for either, and neither answer depends on who is reading it.
One is answered by FxPro and only for you: whether you are eligible for a swap-free account. It is worth settling before funding, because the answer either keeps a whole line of cost on your plan or removes it. And the last one is answered by you — how long positions stay open is a property of the plan rather than of the market, and it is the input that decides whether anything else in this group applies at all.
What to do with the question that stays open
One item on this list refuses to close: nobody knows in advance how long a position will stay open, so the honest answer at deposit time is a blank. A blank is still workable if it is bounded rather than ignored. Decide the longest hold the plan permits — three nights, a week, a month — and the unknown becomes a range instead of a gap.
Bounded that way, the last open question turns into something that can be settled before funding rather than discovered later: the published figure for the instrument and the side, applied across the longest hold the plan allows, with the Wednesday rollover counting three nights of its own. The bound is a decision about your own plan, not a reading off a screen, which is exactly why it belongs on a pre-deposit list.
The holding questions before a deposit
| Question | Kind of answer | Where it is written | Does the answer move? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Does my plan hold past the rollover? | Yes or no | The plan itself | No |
| What is the rate on my instrument? | A figure per instrument | Instrument specification in the platform | Yes |
| Which side am I holding? | Long or short, priced separately | Instrument specification in the platform | No |
| Which night counts three times? | A calendar rule | Wednesday, covering the weekend value dates | No |
| Am I eligible for a swap-free account? | Yes or no, per client | Confirm with FxPro before funding | No |
| How many nights will I hold? | An estimate at best | The plan itself | Yes |
Four of the six answers are rules and can be learned once; only the rate and the length of the hold are read at the moment they apply.

What traders report
Two comments is the whole of what traders have said to us about carry, and both come from people who left positions open for weeks rather than hours — which is the only way the charge is ever met. One reports short GBP/USD and EUR/USD held since November with the nightly cost staying out of the way; the other says a swap-free Islamic account removed the question for him. Nobody here trades metals or indices, and nobody names a figure, so treat this as two experiences beside the measured rates rather than as a guide to them.
FxPro doesn't charge high swap commissions. I've been holding short positions on gbpusd and eurusd since november.
I'm a swing trader, so for me the spreads is just nice and acceptable with 0 commission, they offer Islamic swap free.
